I did it ! I ran / jogged/ walked the ING NYC Marathon 2009 !
It was an amazing experience that I will never ever forget. I know that my time is far from stellar, but the goal was to do it, enjoy it and finish it.
Some background info:
I entered the marathon 6 weeks ago on September 15th 2009. So it was last minute .
I am no runner, far from it, this race was my first race ever.
I slept 2 hours before the race because I was nervous that I would oversleep, I had been working on our book proposal [ exciting and a great opportunity ! ] and my iPod decided to call it quits so I had to figure out how to work it … I am a Sony kinda woman … who loves NAPSTER [ yes I do ! Give me Napster any day over iTunes ]
So uhm yeah, I know I am making excuses for my bad time … but I don’t care. I RAN A MARATHON !
It hurt so bad … but I think that I know now how to run the next one [oh yeah... there will be a next one]
My body is so sore today and I can’t walk or even get out of my bed without holding on the tables, closets and walls.
So uhm yeah … I am running the NYC Marathon this year. It was kinda last minute and I have never really ran more than 6 miles in one go…
This is where I will post some updates on my training/ preparations / fears and strategizing …
I will do this !
September 15 2009 – I ran 3 miles
September 24th 2009 – I ran 6 miles
September 29th 2009 – I ran 12 miles in 135 minutes
this is half way down … I was on a roll … and BOOM the machine stops ! Cut off time was 6o minutes [+5 minutes cooldown ... ] So I had to do it twice …
It was do-able, but at the last 2.5 … my iphone ran out of juice [ thanks for mob calling me y'all ] so it was tough to just keep on going without beats.
Sunday September 4th 2009 : I ran11 miles in about 110 minutes —> first outdoor run

Sarah and I ran I’d say about 10 miles today . We left my house in Ditmars to Central Park [ crossing the Queensboro Bridge ] . We lost each other but got reunited at the end. Just like when we go snowboarding … I am a bit sore. I hate running.
all things considered, me hating running and never really done it, it’s been going quite ok I think. What I am trying to do is keep my heart rate steady, running for about 4-5 miles and then maybe jog/ powerwalk for 1 to drink a bit and re-charge and do it again… No peaks, no sprinting no funny stuff. Just trying to get through it, knowing it’s all about endurance and as long as I keep on running on this schedule, I should be able to make it through. I recover quite fast and I KNOW that I can do this.
Looking back at this… the last time I went for a run was on September 29th haha… so I didn’t run for a month before the marathon … I guess I did really wing it..
